Description:
Needlewoman and Needlecraft was an amalgamation of two other magazines: Needlecraft, (first produced 1907), and The Needlewoman, (first produced 1919). It was a quarterly magazine, and the first issue was published in January 1940. Hence this issue is number "26".
In the 1970s it dropped the Needlecraft name, and became simply "Needlewoman"; then during 1977 it was incorporated with Stitchcraft monthly magazine. Because of this the numbering systems can appear confusing, with 1970s editions appearing to predate those of the 1930s - however the content usually makes the era unmistakeable.

(9-12 years - 2 sizes)

Description: Small booklet of 4 sweaters all in fingering 4 ply weight: V-neck cricket sweater with cable; round-neck slipover with a textured garter stitch; collared lumber jacket with texturing and mock breast pockets; and V-neck fair-isle slipover. Yet another good set of designs that I personally like very much. Sized for "9-12 years" (but maybe slightly younger kids these days).
The fair-isle slipover is ver "Wartime Farm" while the lumber jacket I believe (but do not know) was the pattern used to recreate the boy's red sweater in the recent TV adaptation of Greenshaw's Folly - part of the ITV Marple series.

Traditional vintage designs for boys (or girls)

Pattern ID: PB 444
Wool brand: Totem, Double Quick, Moorland

Wool weight: Double Knitting
Needle size: 4mm and 3¼mm
Tension (10x10cm): 22sts x 30 rows

Description: Small booklet of 3 sweaters all in double knitting weight: V-neck with small vertical cabled stripes; round-neck with a staggered rib on the body and ribbed raglan sleeves; and shawl collar with purl stitched patterning. I personally think this is a really nice set for "6-14 years" (but maybe slightly younger kids these days) - all different - and designed for a single colour creating interest through textured stitches.

Head to toe woolly oufit for 3-4 year old

- check "prices" section for more information)

Description: Quite a cute little outfit if you ignore the trousers - which may be cute depending on the climate where you live. It includes mittens and a choice of hats - the bobble hat shown on the cover, (oozing with masculinity), and a girl's version in the form of a bonnet. Some creasing and wear.

Pullover for a cheerful boy

Pattern ID: PB 419
Wool brand: Moorland DK
Yarn quantity: 11 (1oz balls)
Sizes: 32 inch chest - 1 size (11-13 years)

Needle size: 4mm and 3mm
Tension (10x10cm): 20sts x 28 rows

Price: £3.00 (includes 2nd class postage within UK
- check "prices" section for more information)

Description: A simple rib pattern, with a pleasing tramline effect, and shown off to best effect by a typical cheeky chappy very much of the era.
The pattern is in fairly good condition in terms of surface creasing (which is often a problem with these older P&B patterns), but it does have an unplasant tear at the side, though it does not affect the instructions.
