Description: They have used Jean Shrimpton to model this rather plain V-neck cardigan; she did appear in Patons Stitchcraft magazines in the early sixties, and it's easy to see how she soon became the world's most highly paid model - so strikingly lovely. All of the the impact of this design is achieved through the tweedy yarn. Bracken Tweed was an exceedingly nice yarn - you need to substitute something like Rowan Felted Tweed - but check your tension - as you can see, Bracken was a fairly dense DK whereas Rowan's is equally lovely but a lighter weight DK.

Description:
Needlewoman and Needlecraft was an amalgamation of two other magazines: Needlecraft, (first produced 1907), and The Needlewoman, (first produced 1919). It was a quarterly magazine, and the first issue was published in January 1940. A few issues may have been missed during WWII, hence this issue is number "115".
In the 1970s it dropped the Needlecraft name, and became simply "Needlewoman"; then during 1977 it was incorporated with Stitchcraft monthly magazine. Because of this, the numbering systems can appear confusing, with 1970s editions appearing to predate those of the 1930s - however the content usually makes the era unmistakeable.

Description: Excellent pattern for a man's zipped cardigan in a wide chequered pattern created in sections of plain and purl. I am fairly confident that this is a very early example of modelling by Roger Moore - making it all the more lovely. However, sadly, the instructions are given for only one moderate man's size.
The pattern is in a delicate condition with some tears; The instructions are in tact but I will also supply a clean copy of them along with the original pattern.
This pattern is also featured in Jane Waller's book Man's Knitting Book: Classic Patterns from the 20's to the 50's - published in 1984. The pattern is reproduced as is - not revamped with additional sizes - unlike later collaborations where Susan Crawford redrafts similar vintage patterns.
